White Republicans Have Heard Enough About Trayvon Martin, Thank you very much (Not that it’s a race thing!)
Despite what Fox News , Newt Gingrich or Rush Limbaugh wants you to believe, the case of Trayvon Martin is most definitely an issue of race, infused with politics. How do I know? Let’s go to the survey, folks:
A majority (56%) of Republicans say they’ve had more than enough media coverage of the Trayvon Martin case. Contrast that with the mere 25% of Democrats who agree. In addition, a plurality of whites (43%) would like you all to just STFU about Trayvon, already. (Versus just 16% of blacks.)
The takeaway? Overall, 37% of participants in the Pew poll say the media are focusing too much on Martin’s death. This nearly matches the 40% who say coverage has been about right. Carroll Doherty, associate director of Pew Research Center, told The Los Angeles Times:
“This story has emerged as a kind of flashpoint story that divides people, and people have very different reactions based on race and ethnicity,” Doherty said of the results. “Seldom do you get differences along these lines….This story seems to have really touched a nerve, and there’s a clear difference in the way political groups and racial groups see it.”

Excellent post. I really like your coverage of the issue and bringing light to those stats. It’s scary how backwards some things still are in 2012.
I think this budding comedian sums it up pretty good…
