The Ugly Truth About Anti-Gay Extremists, NOM
Secret internal documents from NOM (the National Organisation for Marriage) have been unveiled, and it is not pretty. Their strategies include driving a wedge between the black and gay communities and stopping the assimilation of the Hispanic community in its tracks. These people are a nasty piece of work.
The documents, obtained by Human Rights Campaign as part of an ongoing investigation by the state of Maine into NOM’s campaign finances, reveal a group willing to stoop to race baiting to achieve there anti-gay political goals. I’ll provide a few excerpts below, but I warn you, it’s ugly:
“The strategic goal of this project is to drive a wedge between gays and blacks—two key Democratic constituencies. Find, equip, energize and connect African American spokespeople for marriage, develop a media campaign around their objections to gay marriage as a civil right; provoke the gay marriage base into responding by denouncing these spokesmen and women as bigots…”
Nice, huh? And what about the increasingly important Latino vote?
“The Latino vote in America is a key swing vote, and will be so even more so in the future, both because of demographic growth and inherent uncertainty: Will the process of assimilation to the dominant Anglo culture lead Hispanics to abandon traditional family values? We must interrupt this process of assimilation by making support for marriage a key badge of Latino identity – a symbol of resistance to inappropriate assimilation.”
“Inappropriate assimilation”?? There’s more, too – including targeting Obama, throwing pornography into the mix and, as reported by Buzzfeed:
The group also sought to identify “victims” of same-sex marriage — children raised in gay households — and in another document budgeted $120,000 to locate “children of gay parents willing to speak on camera.”
As HRC’s Campaign Media Director Kevin Nix says, ”Nothing beats hearing from the horse’s mouth exactly how callous and extremist this group really is.”
HRC has the documents accessible in pdf format on their site here.
