Inexplicable John McCain Quote of the Day
This week there has been an awful lot of competition for the title of ”Inexplicable John McCain Quote of the Day.” With the logical back-flips and inconsistent flip-flops McCain has employed to explain his continuing drive to prevent repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”, there have been some spectacular examples. Still, this one takes the cake:
“I will not agree to have this bill go forward,” he said. “Because our economy is in the tank.”
Seriously, WTF?
Just to be clear: “this bill” refers to the Defense appropriations bill. You know…funding for our most sacred institution, the thing McCain claims to revere above all others – the United States Military… in a time of war, no less! (Two wars, but who’s counting?)
Is McCain coming to his senses on military spending? Of course not. He’s trying to use the economy as an excuse to delay the vote until after the next Congress is seated in January, and GOP gains will make it easier to defeat DADT repeal. And he’s willing to leave the military in the lurch to do so.
I say it’s inexplicable, but really there are two obvious possible answers:
- John McCain is “throwing national security, civilian control of the military, and the hierarchical chain of command under the f***ing bus” because he really, truly hates gays.
Or… - It’s one more thing President Obama really, truly wants and John McCain is a spiteful, vindictive, cranky old man.
Considering McCain’s behavior since losing the 2008 election, he is doing no one any good by remaining in the Senate: Not the people of Arizona, not the troops, and certainly not his own legacy. If he were a dog, he’d have been put down by now. Just sayin’.

I love the context you provided for his quote. I agree, WTF!
